Cotton Remains Minor Crop in Shanxi Province
Shanxi Province is located on the southwest edge of the North China Plain and is the smallest cotton producer in the region, with only 96,667 hectares planted in 2008/09. Corn is the dominant crop. The Shanxi Agriculture Department reports that 2,513,067 hectares have been planted to crops this season, with grain crops accounting for 1,893,133 hectares; of which, corn is the largest crop at 1,074,467 hectares.
